Purpose of introduction
Breakdown of industrial sectors into five main industrial groupings: intermediate goods, energy, capital goods, consumer durables and consumer non-durables. Main industrial groupings are defined based on the Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community (NACE Rev. 2) and divided at group level (three-digit codes).
Classification object
Mining and quarrying, manufacturing, electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply, water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation.
Area of application
Short-term statistics.
Legal basis
The use of the classification is stipulated by the:
- Commission Regulation (EC) No 586/2001 of 26 March 2001 on implementing Council Regulation (EC) No 1165/98 concerning short-term statistics as regards the definition of Main Industrial Groupings (MIGS);
- Commission Regulation (EC) No 656/2007 of 14 June 2007 amending Regulation (EC) No 586/2001 on implementing Council Regulation (EC) No 1165/98 concerning short-term statistics as regards the definition of main industrial groupings (MIGS).
